Join us for a live, educational webinar
Completing the program started with our first Fast Intuitive Structure Determination webinar, this fifth 1-hour webinar in the series will present structure refinement using George Sheldrick’s SHELXL-2013 as implemented in APEX2 software. Presenters Dr. Michael Ruf and Dr. Bruce Noll will also show the tools for reporting experimental results as either the standard CIF file, or in an HTML-based, easily readable format that includes the Jmol chemical structure viewer for exploration of the 3D structure.
The Structure Refinement plug-in of APEX2 puts everything in one place for easy handling of the refinement process. In one screen are the three principal files used and created by SHELXL, as well as a structure viewer and ready access to molecular editing programs like XSHELL, XP, and OLEX2.
After completing the refinement, the Report Generator collects all of the experimental details and presents them as a CIF file, which can be completed within the plug-in, or as the hypertext-based report format. The HTML report will create text describing the details of the experiment, interactive figures of the structure, and will generate the tables familiar to many from CIFTAB and XCIF. The Jmol figures can be examined and bond lengths and angles and torsion angles calculated, different types of surfaces can be generated, and the structure can be oriented to any view.
With these two tools, the Structure Refinement plug-in and the Report Generator plug-in, accurate structural results are readily generated and easily communicated.
