Three-dimensional Structures of Supermolecular Materials Provide Insight into Their Function

The D8 VENTURE with METALJET once more has proven its excellence for the investigation of the smallest, most challenging samples with this new case study. Binary ionic porphyrins notoriously form nano-sized crystals, making it nearly impossible to determine their crystal structure. This class of porphyrins is of particular interest because of their potential application in optoelectronic devices. Using the D8 VENTURE with METALJET, the molecular organization of a binary ionic porphyrin solid was determined for the first time.

From Farm to Table: S2 PUMA for the Elemental Analysis of Food and Feed

Food quality is a global concern and requires stringent monitoring all along the supply chain. EDXRF is a proven elemental analysis technique that's widely applied to make sure norms are followed and consumers are kept safe. The S2 PUMA EDXRF analyzer was designed to deliver accurate elemental concentrations for food and feed applications. Enabling detection of elemental nutrients, additives, toxins, and contaminants, the S2 PUMA is invaluable at any stage of food production processes.

Test Methods for Additive Manufacturing (AM) – New Analytical Possibilities for Characterization and Monitoring from Powder to Final Product

Increasingly used in metal part production, additive manufacturing (AM) or "3D printing" is the process of joining materials to make objects from 3D model data, usually layer upon layer. A key aim of AM is to build parts without porosity. Monitoring of non-metallic elements that form gas inclusions during the 3D printing process is therefore very important. This technical poster gives an overview of the determination of C, S, O, N, H and Ar in various metal powders and final products using G4 ICARUS HF, G8 GALILEO IGF, and G8 GALILEO ONH combustion gas analysis instruments.

X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD) in Pharma: Amorphous Content Determination and Degree of Crystallinity

Amorphous phases are often used in the pharmaceutical industry – in active ingredients, binders, and bulking aids, for example. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) is the premier analytical technique for measuring degree of crystallinity due to its nondestructive nature and speed in data collection. In this report, a D8 ADVANCE was used to characterize a crystalline phase of acetominophen blended with varying amounts of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). Excellent linearity is achieved for blends across the compositional gradient and detection of the crystalline phase is possible as low as 0.2 wt%.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Expands its Laboratory Capabilities with Bruker's Newest Addition to the Art Conservator's Mobile Lab

The NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art and Bruker announced a 10-year partnership to advance analytical technologies in the field of cultural heritage science. This partnership builds upon a long history of collaboration which has yielded considerable progress, including use of the Bruker Art Conservator's Mobile Laboratory, which incorporates handheld XRF, handheld Raman and portable FT-IR analyzers. The Met's most recent purchase is an ELIO portable µXRF, a compact energy-dispersive portable XRF spectrometer that will bring new capabilities to conservation research.

Automated and High-Throughput MicroCT Imaging

Push-button operation of our SKYSCAN microCT imaging systems allows running a pre-programmed sequence of scanning, reconstruction, and data visualization. Several systems can be automated even more, however, through the use of an automated sample changer that loads a new sample to the scanner automatically once the previous scan has ended. This approach offers independent operation of the microCT scanner and high sample thoughput, all without an operator being present.

D8 VENTURE User Wins iPad

The lucky winner of our February 2018 SC-XRD customer satisfaction survey drawing for an iPad was Dr. Duane Choquesillo-Lazarte, Tenured Scientist at the Laboratorio de Estudios Cristalográficos (LEC),
Instituto Andaluz de Ciencias de la Tierra (IACT), of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Spain. Duane uses a D8 VENTURE in his daily work studying the crystallography of a wide range of organic and metallo-organic compounds. One of his special interests is the use of gels as crystal growth media for small molecules. If only the iPad had an app for that!

SC-XRD Customer Satisfaction Survey

If you own Bruker equipment for single crystal structure analysis, we want to hear from you! Fill out our Customer Satisfaction Survey for a chance to win a new iPad. Drawings are held twice a year and winners are announced in FIRST Newsletter
