About the course

This course is designed for experienced users of the Bruker D8 QUEST or D8 VENTURE systems for X-ray crystal structure determination (chemical crystallography). The course includes instruction, lab time and documentation. The training is in English, so participants should have strong English skills.

Course Agenda

This course runs 9am-5pm, Monday & Tuesday and covers the following:

  • Discussion of data collection techniques and strategies for difficult problems
    • Small or weakly diffracting samples
    • Unstable or air-sensitive samples
    • Twinned crystals
  • Hands-on use of a Bruker single crystal diffraction system with low-temperature device
  • Structure determination with APEX3 software suite for challenging samples: disorder and twinning
    • Data collection strategies
    • Advanced data integration and analysis techniques
    • Advanced structure determination and refinement techniques
  • Routine maintenance of software and hardware

Course Fee

Course fee is $1,320 USD per person. Payment for the class per participant is due one month in advance.

Class size

Because our training's are interactive and learner-oriented, we limit class size to a minimum of three and a maximum of six. Early enrollment is encouraged as registrations are accepted on a first-come/first-serve basis.

**Each participant will be provided with class materials and lunch daily. While we have computers on-site, it is recommended that each participant bring a laptop. It is highly recommended to fly into Madison (MSN) on Sunday afternoon/evening and fly out Wednesday to be able to attend the full course.
