Autumn - Chemistry in Color

Autumn is our favorite time of year! We begin to feel that cool crisp in the air, football season is in full swing and the changing foliage never lets us down with its beautiful display of colors. From reds to yellows to oranges and everything in between, we get to enjoy chemistry in color in Madison, Wisconsin.

Here at Bruker we also get to enjoy a different kind of chemistry in color. For example, by examining the changes of the leaves using Micro XRF on our M4 TORNADO, we can observe how essential elements distribute throughout a leaf at a very small scale. By using Micro XRF spectroscopy, we can obtain an XRF spectrum at only a 20-micron spot size for each optical pixel. This produces a beautiful display of colors based on the intensity of elements present within changing foliage.

Even though we begin to see summer in the rear view mirror and winter in front of us here in Madison, autumn is an exciting time at Bruker. We have a number of seminars (X-Team Tours) scheduled throughout the U.S. this fall. We also have a number of Service and Applications Training classes in Madison. Please feel free to visit us and not only check out the beautiful autumn colors but also what we have to offer!

Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction
IYCr OpenLab
Students from across Latin America attended a 9-day OpenLab training school in Montevideo, Uruguay. Organized as part of the IUCr's International Year of Crystallography (IYCr) activities, OpenLab had a strong focus on single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) and opened up a world of opportunities to students with a newly installed D8 VENTURE.
