About the course

 

This course applies to users of the S2 RANGER with SPECTRA EDX Version 2.4 software. Participants will receive 4.5 days of intensive training on the fundamentals of Energy Dispersive X‑ray Spectrometry, using the S2 RANGER with SPECTRA EDX software. This course is a hands-on training and is intended to provide practical experience in handling the X-ray spectrometer. The hardware training will be performed primarily on an S2 RANGER with a recent version of SPECTRA EDX software.

 

 

Course Outline and Agenda

Monday
9am - 4pm

  • Introduction to X-ray spectroscopy
    • Basic X-ray theory
    • Correctly identify peaks and artefact peaks
  • Sample preparation
    • Introduction to sample preparation
    • How to prepare samples properly
  • SPECTRA EDX
    • Explanation of results and evaluation programs

Tuesday
9am - 4pm

  • S2 RANGER
    • Explanation of copper disc calibration
    • Touch screen programs
  • SPECTRA EDX
    • Start of detail calibration training with low alloy steel samples, including topics on choosing and finding correct calibration standards

Wednesday
9am - 4pm

  • SPECTRA EDX
    • Continue detail calibration training with low alloy steel samples, including explanation of line overlaps, matrix correction and equations

Thursday
9am - 4pm

  • SPECTRA EDX
    • Calibration training with slag samples
    • Calibration training with oil samples
    • Explanation of drift correction and control samples
  • Standardless Analysis and Evaluation
    • Explanation of EQUA_ALL and how to correctly report the results for each analysis from the standardless program
    • Modifying an existing standardless program
    • Creating a new standardless program

Friday
9am - 12pm

  • S2 RANGER Maintenance
    • Preventive maintenance
    • Diagnostic program software
    • Remote diagnostics via modem or WebEx

 

Course Fee

Course fee is $4,000 USD. Payment for the class per participant is due one month in advance.

Class size

Because our training's are interactive and learner-oriented, we limit class size to a minimum of three and a maximum of six. Early enrollment is encouraged as registrations are accepted on a first-come/first-serve basis. We reserve the right to cancel a course if there are less than three registrants four weeks prior to the start date.

Our Facility

This Bruker AXS Training is at our Madison, Wisconsin location. it is about 12 minutes from downtown Madison and within walking distance of walking and bike paths, cafeterias and restaurants. At the facility participants can also tour our research labs, detector area and service areas.

 **Each participant will be provided with class materials, computer, and lunch. It is highly recommended to fly into Madison (MSN) on Sunday afternoon/evening and fly out Friday late afternoon or evening to be able to attend the full course.
