Learn how X-ray techniques help in the shale gas revolution - register now!
XRF and XRD analytical techniques play an important role in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons. The recent resurgence of the US as a major producer, heralded as the “shale gas revolution,” indirectly led to the record-setting low oil prices we enjoy today. The complex tight resource “plays”, also known as shale gas deposits, for the rest of us require not only new advanced engineering but also new analytical approaches.
Join us for this webinar in which our host, Alexander Seyfarth, Sr. Global Product Manager for HH-XRF, discusses the implementation of XRF and XRD for exploration with Dr. Harry Rowe, Bureau of Economic Geology, University of Texas at Austin, and Nathan Ganser, Principal of Mud Lab. Harry Rowe developed a system employing HH-XRF in the chemostratigraphy of mudrock, which are predominantly rock-forming shale that hosts gas deposits. Initially used on core samples from prior drills to gain more data for modelling how these shale deposits formed, the system transitioned to become an important exploration and production tool and is now used widely outside the lab. Combining the elemental information of XRF with the mineralogical composition information of XRD enables faster and better decision-making while drilling, thus reducing equipment costs and avoiding costly mistakes. Nathan Ganser will illustrate how XRD and XRF combined and on-demand with fast turnaround time makes drilling competitive, even at less than $70 USD per barrel!
We look forward to seeing you online!
